Title: Technology: Free and Powerful for the Latin Classroom

Speakers: Zee Poerio and Cindy Caltagirone

Description: Technology is vital in providing students learning experiences they need to obtain skills necessary to compete in an ever changing world.  Studies show that despite increased access to technology, a majority of teachers say they do not have the right level of technology training to use the tools given to them. Knowing what tools are out there and how to use them in a classroom setting to motivate, instruct, and encourage skill acquisition is imperative for the 21st Century.

Prezi and Touchcast are two of the premiere free tools for teachers that are user friendly, easy to use, and encourage creativity.  Touchcast lets you create interactive videos that you can insert pictures, videos, news tickers, social media feeds, web pages, polls, and Prezis. Prezi is an online interactive presentation program that zooms, animates, and mind maps your presentations. Used together for teacher or student centered learning, these tools ignite super-learning.

2 Hour Delay

Screen Shot 2015-01-07 at 10.18.23 PM

We’ve only been back to school for three days since Christmas and New Year’s Vacation and we already had a two hour delay.  Tomorrow we have another two hour delay. Just read something about Snow Day rituals. http://ask.metafilter.com/253763/Forcing-a-snow-day-What-kid-traditions-do-you-know-about Did you know that you can get a snow day by wearing your pajamas inside out or putting a spoon under your pillow? I never heard of these, but they look like fun. I would rather have a 2 hour delay than a full day cancellation. If there are too many snow days, you start having Snow Make Up days when the weather is nicer and that’s NO FUN. Which do you prefer – 2 hour delay or snow day cancellation?
